Our Work
Improving foundational literacy, numeracy and executive function
in Ugandan children.
We are creating a blueprint for effectively teaching children to read and count.
80% of children in Uganda cannot read and understand a simple text or count well by age 10. enjuba is building a blueprint for early childhood education through structured pedagogy, teacher coaching and books. We partner with rural public and community schools to establish and pre-primary schools that become the much needed foundation for school readiness, ensuring that children gain foundational literacy, numeracy and executive function skills they need to thrive.

Structured Curriculum
We offer high-quality early education programs to children in rural Uganda, helping them develop foundational skills.
Evidence shows that structured curriculum and pedagogy lead to improved student academic performance particulary in foundational skills like literacy and numeracy. We have also seen this predictability of learning, giving teachers clarity and enabling them to be creative in delivering their lessons.

Books
We publish and distribute locally relevant books to help children LEARN to READ so they can READ to LEARN.
Early exposure to books builds crucial language, literacy (vocabulary, comprehension), and cognitive skills, boosting school readiness, attention, and future academic success, while fostering social-emotional growth, confidence, and a lifelong love of reading. This foundation helps close the achievement gap.

Teacher Coaching
We support teachers with in-class peer coaching, giving them an opportunity to receieve real time feedback and to grow.
When teachers are given coaching, 95% of them show an increase in knowledge, skills, and applied practices in the classroom. This is by far the best form to support teachers to deliver better lessons compared to conducting weeklong trainig workshops. We attach a teacher coach to every school we are working in.
Empowering the Next Generation
We are working with the Mayuge Local Government t scale our work to 25 rural public and community schools. We are also partnering with the National Curriculum Development Center (NCDC) to pilot the pre-primary curriculum, applying our model to it, (strutured pedagogy, teacher coaching and books).
What is foundational literacy?
Foundational literacy is the essential ability to read, write, and understand language. At enjuba, we strive to equip Ugandan children with these crucial skills, paving the way for their academic success and lifelong learning.
Why is numeracy important?
Numeracy helps children develop the ability to understand and work with numbers. Our program focuses on enhancing these skills, ensuring that children can confidently tackle mathematical concepts.
What are executive functions?
Executive functions are cognitive processes that enable children to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks. enjuba is nurturing these skills in young learners, fostering resilience and adaptability.
