Building Stronger School Libraries

Highlights from our 2025 Library Training

On 21 May 2025, we hosted our annual Library Training, bringing together 40+ librarians, school proprietors, and community organisers from across Uganda. The one-day training was organised for representatives of institutions that received books through enjuba’s 2025 Library Stocking Campaign, an initiative aimed at increasing children’s access to quality reading materials and strengthening reading cultures in schools and communities.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in sessions on basic library organisation, including how to arrange and maintain library shelves, catalogue books, and keep accurate records of library materials. These skills are essential for helping users locate books easily and ensuring that collections remain organised and sustainable over time. Participants also discussed common challenges faced by school and community libraries and shared experiences from their respective institutions.

We recognise that a library is much more than a room filled with books. A well-managed library can become a centre for learning, curiosity, and imagination. By investing in the skills of the people responsible for managing these spaces, we help ensure that donated books have a lasting impact on the children and communities they are intended to serve.

We are grateful to all the librarians, school proprietors, and community organisers who travelled from different parts of the country to participate in this year’s training. Their commitment to promoting literacy and creating access to books continues to play a vital role in improving learning outcomes for children across Uganda.

As we continue our library development efforts, we remain committed to supporting schools and communities not only with books, but also with the knowledge and skills needed to build vibrant, functional libraries that inspire a lifelong love of reading.
