    Twesigye Jackson Kaguri

    Founder Nyaka

     

    Jackson leads Nyaka Inc, a non-profit organization he founded to tackle systemic deprivation, poverty and hunger through a holistic approach to community development, education, and healthcare. It currently provides free education and healthcare to 86,000 AIDS orphans and vulnerable children and financial support like micro-loans and entrepreneurial training for the 20,000 foster grandmothers who have taken them in. Jackson has raised over $150 million for Nyaka around the world, published seven books and serves on the boards of Global Giving and Uganda Water Project. He was named CNN Hero of the Year, Heifer Hero, Global Citizen, Power of One in Time Magazine, and has spoken at the UN multiple times. He has also received three honorary PhDs. He has also completed an advanced leadership fellowship at Harvard University. He is a father of four children.

    Laura Clifford

    Teacher, Co-Founder Mended Little Hearts of Boston

     

    Laura is originally from Dublin, Ireland, where her journey as a teacher began in Montessori education, providing the foundation for her deep understanding of the importance of fostering independence and a love for learning in young children. With a 20-year career spanning across different countries, Laura had the unique opportunity to immerse herself in a vast range of teaching philosophies, diverse socio-economic populations and interdisciplinary collaborations. Driven by the vision of high-quality early education for all children, Laura transitioned into special education, bridging her Montessori-inspired approach to the public-school sector. Laura is also the Co-founder of Mended Little Hearts of Boston, a non-profit organization that works with Boston Children's Hospital supporting families of children born with congenital heart defects. She lives in Watertown, Massachusetts with her husband and two sons.

    Sharon Newell

    Retired Head Teacher at Purdue University

     

    After years as a banker and division director of the American Heart Association, Sharon went back to college and received a BS in Early Childhood Education and Intervention and MS in Curriculum and Instruction. She then joined Purdue University where she spent over 20 years in the Child Development and Research Lab School as the head teacher and supervisor for students in the ECE and Young and Adult Family Studies. Sharon is a member the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and has been previously involved as a board member at the YMCA, the American Heart Association and Matrix. She is also actively involved in her local church – St. Mary’s Cathedral serving on several committees like the Haiti Committee, Bereavement Committee and the Rosary Alter Society.

    Gasta Kakaire

    Co-Founder National Debate Council

     

    Gasta Co-founded the National Debate Council Uganda (NDC), the country’s first and biggest Speech and Debate organization in 2009. He continues to serve as the Executive Director. Through Debate he has mentored thousands of young people transforming them into confident and collaborative young leaders. As co-founder of Uganda Spelling Bee, and with a background in teaching English language, he laid the much-needed foundation for Spelling Bee training for both teachers and pupils. He is also board chairman of Fine Media Ltd a media and promotions company in Kampala. Gasta is a graduate of Education and MA Makerere University with over 7 years of teaching experience at King’s College Budo one of Uganda’s oldest and leading high school. He lives in Kampala with his wife and their 4 children.

    Aaron Kirunda

    Co-Founder & CEO enjuba

     

    Aaron was born during the war and grew up in abject poverty. He was lucky to have an education and experience its transforming power, while many of his childhood friends dropped out – a trend that continues to date. This fuels his passion to transform Uganda's education system. To-date enjuba has reached 2.1m children across the country through spelling bees, distribution of books to children and libraries and through early childhood education. Aaron is a graduate of the London School Economics and a fellow of MIT’s Global Start-up Workshops, LSE’s Program for African Leadership and Acumen. He was recently named an African Visionary Fellow and one of the 40 people under 40 Ugandans making a difference. He is also a recipient of the Digital Innovation and Inclusion Award. He lives in kampala with his wife and four children.

    Henry Manice

    Co-Founder Mighty Squirrel

     

    Henry is the co-founder of Mighty Squirrel, a craft brewery in Boston. Mighty Squirrel’s taproom has become a multi-generational community, gathering more than 16,000 monthly visitors. Henry is also a co-founder of enjuba going back to 2006 when it was a clothing company and has stayed closely involved over the years while it transformed into an education nonprofit entirely focused on improving education in Uganda. He was also previously a Product Manager at Alphatec a medical device company in San Diego where he developed spinal implant systems to help people with spine injuries regain their active lifestyle. Henry also serves on the board of Squash Busters, which provides athletic, academic, and leadership opportunities to low-income youth. He lives in Waltham, Massachusetts with his wife and two sons
